Well, I'm back from Hawai'i. We got in around 11:00 last night, and we took today to run post-vacation errands. Here's a video to whet your appetite for tropical things (the music is mine):
Here's a photo of some of the other family members admiring the scenery:
Raiders of the Lost Ark in 5 Seconds
Sacrilicious:
(Almost all of the "in 5 seconds" films are amusing. Take 20 minutes and browse 'em!)

Music: Geonosian Advance
This is not really meant to be a movie, but Blogger doesn't allow MP3s, so I whipped something up this morning in about an hour. It's not meant to be at all "good". ...Well, the music is. Screw the video. ; )
This is one of four songs I've started for my next album. The pictures and movies are just shots of my "studio" and of New Mexico: I took them all. Feel free to ignore them; this is really about the music. : ) Sadly, Blogger did a wonderful job of butchering the sound quality in its "processing". Oh, well. At least you get the idea.
Speaking of Aliens...
A new X-Files movie is en route. [via]
X-Files has come up in multiple conversations lately, so this is good, timely news. ...Most of the conversations were along the lines of "Scully was so hot."
It's supposed to be a "stand-alone movie", departing from the "mythology" of the shark-jumping episodes.
It will be good to see them on the screen again. ...Cause, clearly, she is so hot.

Note To Shelf: Short Film Concept
(Done in rough cartoon-style. Silent, or with minimal ambient background.)
- A man, staring down at a picnic table. No motion, but the drawing should "wiggle".
- A mosquito, sitting on the picnic table. Stoic.
- The man. Close-up of his face, staring at the mosquito. He squints slightly, brow furrowing a little.
- Mosquito, close-up of its head. No expression.
- The man's eyes, reflecting the picnic table, with a dot on it.
- Mosquito's eyes, reflecting 3 dozen men.
- From the side: the man slowly raises his hand to head-level, palm-forward, ready to swat.
- Repeat scene 4.
- From behind and above. The man starts to swing
- Rapid switch to side-view of the mosquito, pulled out a bit, to see the hand coming down. It jumps away with a buzzing sound, and the hand slaps the surface loudly.
- 2/3rd shot of the man, hand still on the table, head following the mosquito as it buzzes away toward the camera, which it flies past.
- Front view of the man pulling his hand back, putting at his side, looking at where the mosquito was. Perhaps he looks stupidly at the palm of his hand for a moment.
- Further away, he's still standing there, silently. A circular shadow starts to grow from right behind him, encompasses the majority of the scene.
- Close-up of man's face, eyes looking down, then up.
- Pull WAY out to show a meteor falling toward the man.
- Close-up of man's eyes, which quickly widen.
- Side view of meteor falling on man. No explosion: just a THUNK, burrying itself half-way into the ground. Pause. ...The mosquito flies past.
Cool Stop-animation Video
This may take a moment to load, but it's worth watching.
Movies Have Started To Suck
I was just reviewing my list of favorite movies, and it dawned on me: I have nothing to add to this list, and it's been two years since I touched it. (Okay, slight lie: I managed to miss Brick on the list, and added that. But it's a 2005 flick.)
Are movies really starting to suck, or am I just getting more curmudgeonly in my old age?
Ever notice how older adults tend to prefer the older movies? Perhaps there is some part of the human psyche that predisposes us to media ("stories", broadly) that we take in during our more formative years.
If that's true, I'm well-formed. :) Not much has appealed to me since Serenity.
Am I missing something? What have you enjoyed in the past two years?

Busy
I've worked about 35 hours in the past 10 days, in addition to my normal 40-hour job. When I'm not working, I'm a vegetable: parked in front of the tube, reading a book, or playing Oblivion.
I could certainly have worked more, but consciously chose to break away every now and again: I'm trying dilligently not to burn out. ; )
Following through with my motto of "finish", I have, in spare time, tried to finish watching Scrubs, actually finished Oblivion (albeit using the god-mode cheat, and I was much closer to the end of the game than I thought I was), and reading my Ruby on Rails book (and actually digesting it this time instead of breezing through).
I've also come to the realization that "Finish" is more often a case of "Don't start", so I have been focusing on a few projects at work rather than taking on all of the new opportunities I see crop up everywhere. ...Without going into details, I will say that my last week or two at work has been very, very positive.
Although I would be lying if I claimed I'm not looking forward to a lighter load (which I should have in about a week), I must also admit that I'm actually enjoying having such a full schedule. ...To a point. :)
And, of course, I am refusing to let my full schedule interrupt my Sunday-night role-playing game. We're still playing Continuum, though the plan is to wind this down in the next few weeks, and move to some form of Firefly. (I'm hoping we choose Dogs in the Vineyard as a system--I just ordered the book through mail, though it hasn't arrived yet.)
And the dog is freaking out about DST ending: she's presently bugging me about supper, and she has another two hours to go. : )
